What the record shows

By-law 8600 permits, beside the main home, up to two attached additional residential units in a single detached, semi-detached or street townhouse dwelling, or one in a duplex, provided there is no detached unit on the property; together the attached units may be no larger than the main home. Instead, one detached unit may be built on the lot of a single detached, semi-detached, duplex or street townhouse dwelling, but not where two additional units exist or are proposed; it may be at most 100 m² and no larger than the main home, may not be severed from the lot, needs a permanent foundation and direct pedestrian access from a street or laneway, and in the urban area sits at least 1.5 m from the rear and interior side lot lines in a building no taller than 6.5 m.

Every additional unit must be connected to full municipal sanitary sewer and water services and built to the Building Code and Fire Code. The Town's zoning page says the office consolidation brought the unit rules in line with the Planning Act changes of Bill 23. A general permission does not make an existing unit lawful; the building permit and inspections are the records that do.

What OfferDue covers in LaSalle

Extra units allowed is in the free check as a summary of the Town's rule, from our hand-kept table of city rules, and the full report reads the lot's zone where the Town's zoning map is open data we can use; where it isn't, the report's line says where the Town publishes it. Neither is confirmation that a particular unit holds a permit or may be occupied.
