What the record shows
The City's page says every short-term rental operator needs a licence before operating. The by-law defines a short-term rental as all or part of a principal residence rented for less than 28 consecutive days. A host may rent or advertise only the place that is their principal residence at that time, for no more than 180 nights in a calendar year, and no more than three bedrooms may be rented individually at once. The by-law also caps occupancy at one person for each 14 square metres of habitable floor area.
Since 1 January 2024 a 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax applies to stays of 30 days or less, and the City's page names short-term rental accommodations and hosts on booking platforms among those who collect it. Brampton also licenses long-term rental homes separately. The by-laws are the public rule. Whether a particular home holds a licence, and whether a condominium's own rules allow the use, are separate questions the by-laws don't answer.
