What the record shows
Kitchener consulted on a short-term rental licensing by-law and, at its meeting of 23 June 2025, Council decided not to pursue a municipal licensing program. The project page says that after reviewing public input and the rules short-term rental platforms already apply, Council found the financial and staffing demands of a City-run system would be unsustainable. The project is closed.
The page says concerns such as noise and property upkeep continue to be handled through existing by-laws, including the Noise By-law and the Property Standards By-law. With no licensing program, the City issues no short-term rental licence to look up for a given home.
