What the record shows

The City's page says anyone operating a short-term accommodation in Thunder Bay, whether listed on a booking platform or booked directly, must collect the Municipal Accommodation Tax from guests and remit it to the City, a requirement in place since 2018 under By-law 74/2018. The tax is 5% of the accommodation charge for a continuous stay of less than 30 days. An operator submits an Accommodation Establishment Information Form within 30 days of starting and remits the tax monthly or quarterly.

The City's business licensing page lists the businesses it licenses, among them lodging houses and trailer parks; short-term rentals are not on the list. The tax registration is the public record here; whether a particular home is rented this way is a separate question.
