What the record shows

The Town's Official Plan says the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan provides land use and resource management direction for approximately 80% of Whitchurch-Stouffville, and that the Greenbelt Area takes in a notable portion of the north-west of the town, with Protected Countryside lands and lands in the Greenbelt's Natural Heritage System. On the Province's maps, the moraine plan's sectional Map 4 covers East Gwillimbury, Markham and Whitchurch-Stouffville, boundary sheets 5, 6, 7 and 9 list the town, and Protected Countryside sheets 14, 15, 18 and 19 name it.

The Town's zoning ties extra units to these lines. Section 3.28 of Zoning By-law 2010-001-ZO allows one integrated unit in a single detached house in the Oak Ridges Moraine Countryside zone, and one unit outside settlement areas in the Greenbelt's Protected Countryside but outside its Natural Heritage System; the Town's page says an additional unit is not permitted in the moraine's Natural Core and Natural Linkage Areas or in the Greenbelt's Natural Heritage System. A result from the provincial layers says whether an address falls inside a mapped area and which designation; it is a planning boundary, not a statement about what a particular lot may be used for.
