Home records, explained › Costs and the market

What did owners in the neighbourhood say their homes were worth?

In the 2021 Census, Statistics Canada asked owners what they expected their home would sell for. The median and average by dissemination area (a few hundred households) are published, and the check reads them for the area the address falls in.

Report check: Home values in the area. Entry reviewed 20 Oct 2026; each source below shows its own data date.

What the record is

The figure is the owners' own estimate in May 2021, not a sale price and not an appraisal. Statistics Canada flags areas where many households didn't respond.

The report line gives the median (and average) for the area with the census date. Sold prices of individual homes are not in our reports: a buyer's agent can show recent sales, and the parcel register on ONLand records past sale prices.
