What is the residential property tax rate?
Each municipality sets its residential tax rate every year by by-law, as a percentage of the assessed value MPAC gives the property. Our hand-kept table records the published rate for 61 cities, with the page it came from and the date we read it.
Report check: Property tax rate. Entry reviewed 20 Oct 2026; each source below shows its own data date.
How a report shows itsample, made-up home
The 2026 residential rate is 1.10% of assessed value (sample figure).
Where we read it

What the record is
The total rate combines the municipal rate (and a regional rate in two-tier regions) with the provincial education rate. Cities whose rates differ by area or service (Hamilton, Kingston, Greater Sudbury) are noted in the table. The tax on a home is the rate times its assessed value, which the seller's MPAC notice shows.
The report line gives the city's rate for the year with what it includes. The tax rate by-law is the authoritative text.
Where it runs
The municipal rule comes from our hand-kept tables, read from each municipality's own by-law or published page, for the 61 municipalities listed below. For a home anywhere else: We don't have the municipality's tax rate summarised yet. The rate is set each year in its tax rate by-law; the tax on a home is the rate times MPAC's assessed value.
