What the record shows

The Town's page says residents and property owners who rent their property for 28 days or less need a licence under By-law 6426-22. An application includes a certificate of insurance endorsed for short-term rentals, a police background check, site and floor plans and a permitted use letter from the Town's Building Division, and a by-law officer inspects the home before a licence is issued for one year. A licensee may rent the entire home or up to three bedrooms, with an off-street parking space for each bedroom used for the rental.

The licence is posted inside the front entrance and a sticker goes on the front window or door; licensees keep quarterly fire extinguisher, smoke alarm and CO alarm records, and the Town uses a demerit point system. A stay of more than 28 days is a tenancy under the Residential Tenancies Act. The by-law is the public rule; whether a particular home holds a licence is a separate question.
