What the record shows

By-law 2024-078, in effect since 6 January 2025, requires a licence for a dwelling unit, or part of one, offered for 28 consecutive days or less, bed and breakfasts included. Class A rents up to three guest rooms, two renters each, in a single-detached home that is the licensee's principal residence, with the licensee on site from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.; Class B rents that principal residence without the licensee on site; Class C rents an additional residential unit on the same lot as the owner's principal residence. Classes B and C allow two persons per approved guest room and eight in all, and the Town issues no more than 200 licences, with a waitlist after that.

The zoning allows one short-term accommodation per lot, run as a home occupation, in a single-detached dwelling or an additional residential unit within or accessory to one. The licence fees are $1,250 for Class A, $2,250 for Class B and $2,500 for Class C, and since 1 March 2025 a 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax applies to stays of 28 days or less. The Town's licence map shows the status of each application and licence. The by-laws are the public rule. Whether a particular home holds a licence is a separate question.
