What the record shows

The by-law defines a short-term rental accommodation as a dwelling unit, or part of one, used as a place of temporary residence for any period equal to or less than 30 consecutive calendar days, and each one needs a Town licence. The Town's page says the property must be a single family dwelling with a minimum of three parking spaces plus one for each guest room, and the by-law limits the driveway or parking area to 55% of the lot frontage and the number of persons on the premises to twelve, or fewer on a septic system after a review of its capacity. Licensed premises must be at least 100 metres apart, measured between their lot lines, unless the Town's Short-term Rental Accommodation Committee grants a variance, and active licences may not exceed 150 at any time.

Since 2 August 2023 an on-site host is no longer required. A licence lasts one year; the Town's page lists fees of $550 to apply and $350 to renew, a $180.80 fire inspection, a $100 by-law inspection, a $146 septic review and a $218 zoning review, and asks for proof of $2 million of liability insurance. Demerit points can suspend a licence at seven and revoke it at 15. The Town publishes a list of licensed rentals, 57 as of 11 June 2026. The by-law is the public rule; whether a particular home holds a licence is a separate question.
