How can I find recorded pits, quarries and petroleum wells near a Windsor home?
Two provincial records: the Find Pits and Quarries map of licensed and permitted aggregate sites, and the petroleum wells dataset of wells drilled for oil, gas, salt or underground storage.

What the record shows
The Province's Find Pits and Quarries map shows the sites licensed or permitted under the Aggregate Resources Act, with the type of operation and the licensee, and can count the sites near a point you choose. A licence on the map doesn't mean a site is digging today, and the Province notes that a newly approved site can take time to appear.
The petroleum wells dataset records the location of wells drilled for oil or gas, for salt, or for storing hydrocarbons underground, so it is the record for salt wells as well as oil and gas. Both are records of what was licensed or drilled, not a history of every use of a piece of land: a blank result is not proof that land was never a pit, a dump or a factory.
