What the record shows

By-law 115-2022 defines a short-term rental as all or part of a dwelling unit used for temporary accommodation for not more than 29 consecutive days, not counting hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts. No one may carry on business as a short-term rental owner without a City licence, and an applicant must be an individual with permanent residency in Canada whose principal residence is the property, in an area that permits residential uses. The City's page lists proof of principal residence, insurance and a criminal record check among the documents, a notarised letter from the condominium corporation for a condo unit, and a renewal deadline of 30 November each year.

Every licensed owner must also register to collect the Municipal Accommodation Tax, which the City's page puts at 6% from 1 April 2025 on stays of 30 days or less. The by-law is the public rule; whether a particular home holds a licence is a separate question.
