Home records, explained › The home and the lot
What does the Official Plan designate the land as?
The Official Plan is the municipality's long-term land-use plan; its designations (neighbourhood, mainstreet, employment, natural area) set the direction that zoning must follow. Ottawa publishes its Official Plan transects as open data, and the check reads the one at the address.
Report check: Official Plan designation. Entry reviewed 20 Oct 2026; each source below shows its own data date.

What the record is
Where zoning says what can be built today, the Official Plan says what the city intends for the area over decades. A zoning change must conform to the plan, so the designation is the record of where change is meant to go.
In Ottawa the report line names the transect and policy area the lot sits in. In other cities the line points to the Official Plan maps on the municipal website.
Where it runs
What the report reads for this check depends on what each municipality publishes.
