Home records, explained › Land, soil and environment
Were there landfills, pits, quarries or gas wells near the home?
Three provincial records are read together: Ontario's waste management sites (landfills, open and closed), its authorised aggregate sites (pits and quarries) and its petroleum wells (oil, gas and other wells, last validated in 2016).
Report check: Past land use nearby. Entry reviewed 20 Oct 2026; each source below shows its own data date.

What the record is
Each record comes from the ministry that licenses the activity. The waste sites layer records landfills and other waste facilities with their status; the aggregate layer records licensed pits and quarries that are active; the petroleum well layer records drilled wells and their status, including plugged and abandoned ones.
The report line names each site found near the address with its distance, type and status. Three of these records (pits and quarries, petroleum wells and the Province's layers) also answer the free check's "Past land use nearby" pick; the waste-site layer is too thin in southern Ontario to use live, so the full report reads it instead.
